Cerkamed ENDO-SOLUTION
17% EDTA Liquid for Root Canal Preparation and Smear Layer Removal
Cerkamed ENDO-SOLUTION is a 17% EDTA liquid for chemical-mechanical root canal preparation. It helps clean and prepare the canal, removes the smear layer, exposes dentine tubule orifices and softens the superficial dentine layer to support canal widening and unblocking.
For chemical-mechanical canal preparation
ENDO-SOLUTION is intended for chemical and mechanical root canal preparation. The 17% EDTA helps soften the superficial dentine layer, making canal preparation, cleaning and unblocking easier during treatment.
- 17% EDTA disodium salt solution
- For root canal widening and preparation
- Helps clear blocked canals during preparation
- Supports mechanical instrumentation
- Professional endodontic use only
Smear layer removal
EDTA is used in endodontics to help remove the inorganic component of the smear layer. This helps expose dentine tubule orifices and supports canal cleaning before final irrigation, drying and obturation.
- Removes smear layer
- Exposes dentine tubule orifices
- Binds calcium and magnesium ions
- Softens superficial dentine
- Useful before final cleaning and obturation workflows
Toothsaver clinical view
A 17% EDTA liquid is a useful part of many endodontic irrigation protocols, particularly for smear layer removal and canal preparation. It should be used deliberately, with awareness of irrigation sequence and contact time.
EDTA can neutralise sodium hypochlorite and can react unfavourably with chlorhexidine, so rinse with purified water between incompatible irrigants and avoid leaving EDTA in the canal between visits.
How ENDO-SOLUTION works
The EDTA in ENDO-SOLUTION binds calcium and magnesium ions from the mineral component of dentine. This softens the superficial dentine layer and helps the clinician remove it mechanically during canal preparation.
- Helps soften superficial dentine
- Supports canal widening
- Assists with canal unblocking
- Helps remove smear layer
- Improves exposure of dentine tubule openings
Typical clinical applications
- Root canal preparation
- Canal widening
- Smear layer removal
- Canal unblocking support
- Final rinse sequence where appropriate
- Chemo-mechanical endodontic preparation
- Use before drying and obturation, followed by appropriate rinsing
Important irrigation compatibility points
Do not use sodium hypochlorite immediately before or after rinsing with ENDO-SOLUTION, because EDTA can neutralise the effect of sodium hypochlorite.
Do not use immediately before or after chlorhexidine digluconate, as a white milky precipitate may form. Use purified water to rinse canals between incompatible irrigants.
Suggested clinical use context
Always follow the manufacturer's instructions and your own clinical protocol. Cerkamed describes using the liquid with a syringe and blunt-ended needle with a lateral bore while mechanically preparing the canal.
- Isolate the tooth appropriately, normally with rubber dam.
- Draw ENDO-SOLUTION into a Luer Lock syringe using the supplied adapter.
- Introduce the fluid into the canal using a blunt-ended needle with a lateral bore.
- Work the canal mechanically for approximately 1 minute.
- Rinse with purified water.
- Repeat a few times where clinically required.
- Continue with your chosen irrigation sequence, avoiding direct incompatibility with NaOCl or chlorhexidine.
Important safety information
ENDO-SOLUTION is for professional dental use only. Do not use in patients with hypersensitivity to any of the product components.
Do not leave the product in the canal or tooth cavity between visits, as this may lead to over-softening of dentine. Use particular care near the apical area to reduce the risk of procedural complications.
ENDO-SOLUTION has cytotoxic potential and can cause severe skin burns and eye damage. Use rubber dam, disposable gloves, safety goggles or visor and protective clothing when handling the product.
EDTA can adversely affect the bonding strength of dentine to restorative materials. Rinse thoroughly and consider the full restorative sequence before bonding or definitive restoration.
The supplied dispenser is not designed to draw fluids from the root canal and is not intended for storing liquids.
Storage and handling
- Store in the original packaging below 25°C.
- Close the bottle securely after each use.
- Once opened, the expiry date does not change if the container is securely closed after each use.
- Use the adapter with cap to draw the preparation into a Luer Lock syringe.
- Remove the adapter and close the bottle with the bottle cap for transport.
- Dispose of empty containers responsibly or return them to the manufacturer.
- Always read and follow the manufacturer's instructions before clinical use.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Cerkamed ENDO-SOLUTION used for?
ENDO-SOLUTION is used for chemical-mechanical root canal preparation. It helps with canal widening, cleaning, unblocking and smear layer removal.
What concentration of EDTA does it contain?
ENDO-SOLUTION contains 17% EDTA disodium salt.
What does ENDO-SOLUTION contain?
It contains EDTA disodium salt 17%, purified water Ph. Eur., benzalkonium bromide and excipients.
How much product is supplied?
The pack contains a 200g bottle of preparation, adapter with cap and dispenser.
Can EDTA remove the smear layer?
Yes. EDTA helps remove the smear layer and exposes dentine tubule orifices during root canal preparation.
Can ENDO-SOLUTION be used immediately before or after sodium hypochlorite?
No. EDTA can neutralise the effect of sodium hypochlorite. Use purified water to rinse the canal between incompatible irrigants.
Can ENDO-SOLUTION be used with chlorhexidine?
Do not use it immediately before or after chlorhexidine digluconate, as a white milky precipitate may form. Rinse with purified water between incompatible irrigants.
Can ENDO-SOLUTION be left in the canal between visits?
No. Do not leave ENDO-SOLUTION in the canal or tooth cavity between visits, as this may lead to over-softening of dentine.
Who should use this product?
