Rhondium Deep Margin Elevation DME Wedges
From the inventors of the world-renowned Triodent V3 Sectional Matrix System comes the DME Wedge — a simpler way to manage deep margins.
A matrix–wedge hybrid designed for deep subgingival proximal cavities, deep margin elevation, large restorations and crown cementation.
Matrix–Wedge Hybrid
Designed for deep margin elevation and crown cementation.
Deep Interproximal Reach
Adapts deep into the interproximal space for deep subgingival proximal margins.
Anatomical Design
Asymmetric shape follows natural contours for predictable adaptation.
Cement Control
Helps block interproximal spaces and reduce excess cement during crown cementation.
Deep Margin Elevation Wedges for DME and crown cementation
Rhondium Deep Margin Elevation Wedges, also known as DME Wedges, are designed to give dentists greater control when restoring deep proximal margins, deep subgingival cavities and large interproximal restorations.
The DME Wedge is a matrix–wedge hybrid with an asymmetric shape and smooth, contoured surface. It seats deep interproximally to create a smooth curved surface for large restorations, while also helping to control gingival seepage, displace the interproximal col and block out the interproximal space during crown cementation.
This makes it useful for deep margin elevation, large Class II restorations, deep proximal boxes, subgingival margins and crown cementation.
Toothsaver clinician view
Deep margin elevation can be technically demanding because visibility, moisture control, matrix adaptation and gingival management are all more difficult when the margin is deep. The Rhondium DME Wedge is useful because it helps manage the interproximal space, support the gingiva and create a smoother surface for restoration or cementation.
Why dentists use Rhondium DME Wedges
Blocks out interproximal spaces to help prevent excess cement and create a smooth tooth–cement–crown interface.
Seals against the gingiva, reducing seepage during crown cementation and large restorations.
Displaces tissue and adapts deeply into the interproximal space for deep margin elevation cases.
Asymmetric shape follows natural contours for smoother restorations and predictable contacts.
Can be placed buccally or lingually/palatally for maximum flexibility.
Available in green medium and blue large sizes, with left and right designs.
What is a DME Wedge?
A DME Wedge is a Deep Margin Elevation Wedge used to help manage deep subgingival proximal margins. It was formerly known as the OVC Wedge.
Unlike an ordinary dental wedge, the DME Wedge is designed as a matrix–wedge hybrid. It reaches deep into the interproximal space, helps manage tissue, seals against the gingiva and provides a natural curved surface for large restorations.
In selected large restorative cases, this can help create a smooth curved surface without the need for a matrix band.
Control at the margins
The DME Wedge is designed for superior control in crown cementation and large restorations. Its asymmetric anatomical shape seals against gingiva to prevent seepage, displaces the interproximal col, and blocks out excess cement to create a smooth tooth–cement–crown interface.

Clinical uses
Rhondium DME Wedges are suitable for a range of restorative and prosthodontic cases, including:
- Deep margin elevation
- Deep subgingival proximal cavities
- Large Class II restorations
- Deep proximal boxes
- Crown cementation
- Managing excess cement interproximally
- Displacing the interproximal gingival col
- Reducing gingival seepage
- Creating a smooth tooth–cement–crown interface
- Cases requiring buccal or lingual/palatal placement flexibility
Deep Margin Elevation: why margin control matters
Deep margin elevation is used when a deep proximal margin is difficult to isolate, restore, scan or finish. By elevating the margin coronally with a controlled restorative technique, the clinician can often improve access, isolation and restoration finishing.
The challenge is that deep margins are often close to the gingiva, difficult to keep dry and difficult to adapt with conventional techniques. The DME Wedge helps by seating deeply into the interproximal area, controlling tissue and supporting a smooth contoured surface.
Useful during crown cementation
During crown cementation, excess cement in the interproximal space can be difficult to detect and remove, especially when margins are deep. DME Wedges help block out the interproximal space, control gingival seepage and displace the gingival col.
This supports a cleaner cementation process and helps create a smoother tooth–cement–crown interface.
Practical clinical benefit
The value of a DME Wedge is the way it helps control a difficult interproximal area where isolation, matrix adaptation, gingival management and excess cement removal can all become challenging.

Frequently asked questions
What are Deep Margin Elevation Wedges?
Deep Margin Elevation Wedges, or DME Wedges, are matrix–wedge hybrid wedges designed to help manage deep subgingival proximal cavities, deep proximal boxes, large restorations and crown cementation.
What does DME mean in dentistry?
DME stands for Deep Margin Elevation. It refers to the restorative technique of elevating a deep proximal margin to a more manageable position.
What was the DME Wedge formerly called?
The DME Wedge was formerly known as the OVC Wedge.
What are DME Wedges used for?
They are used for deep margin elevation, large Class II restorations, deep subgingival proximal margins and crown cementation.
Can DME Wedges be used for crown cementation?
Yes. They help block the interproximal space, control gingival seepage, displace the gingival col and reduce excess cement during crown cementation.
Are these the same as ordinary dental wedges?
No. DME Wedges are designed as a matrix–wedge hybrid with an asymmetric anatomical shape and smooth contoured surface for deep margin management.
Can they be used without a matrix band?
In selected large restorative cases, DME Wedges can help provide a natural curved surface without the need for a matrix band.
Can they be placed from the buccal or lingual side?
Yes. DME Wedges can be positioned buccally or lingually/palatally depending on the case.
What sizes are available?
The range includes Green Medium and Blue Large sizes, with left and right designs.
What is in the Intro Pack?
The Intro Pack contains 8 Green Medium Left, 8 Green Medium Right, 8 Blue Large Left and 8 Blue Large Right DME Wedges.
What is in the 50 Pack?
Each 50 Pack contains 25 left and 25 right DME Wedges in the selected size.
Who should use DME Wedges?
They are suitable for dentists carrying out restorative dentistry, deep margin elevation, large posterior restorations and crown cementation where interproximal margin control is important.
Summary
