Description
Canal-Seek™ • Canal orifice indicator • Crack detector stain • Endodontic access
Canal-Seek™ Canal Orifice & Crack Detector Stain
Canal-Seek™ is a blue diagnostic stain designed to help clinicians identify root canal orifices, highlight cracks and improve visualisation during endodontic access preparation.
The blue dye penetrates canal orifices and anatomical irregularities, making it easier to locate root canal openings and assess suspected cracks during endodontic treatment. It can also be used in microsurgery to assess resection and additional canal anatomy.
Find Canal Orifices
Blue dye helps highlight root canal openings during access preparation.
Crack Detection Aid
Designed to help visualise suspected cracks and anatomical irregularities.
Useful in Complex Access
Helpful when canal anatomy is difficult to identify or the pulp floor is obscured.
3 ml Syringe
Supplied as a 3 ml syringe for controlled clinical application.
Blue dye for finding root canal orifices
Canal-Seek™ is an endodontic diagnostic aid used during access preparation to help identify root canal orifices and suspected cracks.
During endodontic treatment, canal orifices can be difficult to locate, especially in calcified teeth, previously restored teeth, retreatment cases or teeth with altered pulp chamber anatomy.
Canal-Seek™ helps by staining the canal openings blue, improving visual contrast on the chamber floor and making it easier to identify key anatomical landmarks.
Toothsaver clinician view
Canal-Seek™ is a simple but useful aid during access refinement. It is particularly helpful when the pulp floor is difficult to read, when anatomy is calcified, or when you want a visual clue before troughing further. It should not replace magnification, illumination and careful anatomical assessment, but it can make canal orifices and suspected cracks easier to see.
Why dentists use Canal-Seek™
The blue dye penetrates canal openings and helps make them more visible.
Useful when assessing suspected cracks during access or restorative evaluation.
Can help clinicians avoid unnecessary dentine removal by improving visualisation.
Helpful where canals are small, calcified or difficult to distinguish from the chamber floor.
Supplied in syringe format for controlled placement into the access cavity.
A simple adjunct for access, canal location, retreatment and crack assessment.
Clinical uses
Canal-Seek™ can be used as a visual aid in endodontic and restorative procedures where improved contrast is helpful.
- Locating root canal orifices
- Access cavity refinement
- Calcified canal cases
- Finding MB2 canals in upper molars
- Retreatment cases with altered chamber anatomy
- Assessing suspected cracks
- Visualising anatomical irregularities
- Checking grooves, developmental lines and chamber floor anatomy
- Restorative assessment around existing restorations where staining may assist visualisation
Useful for calcified canals and difficult anatomy
Calcified canals and altered pulp chamber anatomy can make access preparation challenging. In these cases, clinicians often rely on multiple visual and tactile clues, including magnification, illumination, radiographs, CBCT where indicated, careful troughing and colour changes on the chamber floor.
Canal-Seek™ adds another visual cue by staining areas where the dye can penetrate, helping the clinician identify potential canal entries and suspected crack lines.
Main clinical benefit
Canal-Seek™ improves visual contrast during endodontic access, making canal orifices and suspected cracks easier to identify.
How Canal-Seek™ supports conservative endodontics
A major aim of modern endodontic access is to find canal anatomy without unnecessarily removing dentine.
When canal orifices are difficult to see, clinicians may be tempted to trough more widely. A staining aid can support a more conservative approach by helping highlight canal openings and areas of interest before further dentine removal.
Clinical note
Canal-Seek™ is an adjunctive visual aid. It should be used alongside magnification, illumination, radiographic assessment, tactile feedback and clinical judgement.
A stained line or area should be interpreted carefully. It may indicate an anatomical feature, crack, groove, restoration margin or area of dye penetration, but diagnosis should not rely on stain alone.
Suggested clinical workflow
Gain access and remove overlying restorative material, caries or pulp chamber debris as required.
Clean and gently dry the chamber floor so the stain can be assessed clearly.
Apply a small amount of dye to the chamber floor or area under assessment.
Rinse excess dye, dry gently and inspect under magnification and illumination.

Frequently asked questions
What is Canal-Seek™?
Canal-Seek™ is a blue root canal orifice and crack indicator stain used as a visual aid during endodontic procedures.
What is Canal-Seek™ used for?
It is used to help locate root canal orifices and highlight suspected cracks or anatomical irregularities.
How does Canal-Seek™ work?
The blue dye penetrates canal orifices and small irregularities, improving visual contrast and making these areas easier to see.
Is Canal-Seek™ useful for calcified canals?
Yes. It can be useful in calcified or difficult cases where canal orifices are hard to identify, provided it is used alongside magnification, illumination and careful clinical assessment.
Can Canal-Seek™ help find MB2 canals?
It may help improve visualisation of potential canal entries, including MB2 areas, but it should be used as an adjunct rather than a replacement for careful anatomical assessment.
Can Canal-Seek™ diagnose cracks by itself?
No. It is a visual aid, not a standalone diagnostic test. Suspected cracks should be assessed with magnification, illumination, clinical signs, symptoms and appropriate diagnostic methods.
What size is the syringe?
Canal-Seek™ is supplied as a 3 ml syringe.
Who makes Canal-Seek™?
Canal-Seek™ is made by Mediclus.
Is this only for specialists?
No. It is useful for both general dentists and endodontists who want improved visualisation during endodontic access and crack assessment.
Why buy it from Toothsaver?
Toothsaver is clinician-led and selects endodontic products for practical clinical value. Canal-Seek™ is a simple, useful aid for finding canal orifices and assessing suspected cracks.
